Yeah, it's been a looooong looooooooong time since I last updated my journal. If you care to go back, you'll find me being completely unhappy last year at my last job at Best Buy.
Well, I'm at a NEW job. I now work at Borders Books. Has anything changed? Yes.
When I was at Best Buy, I was barely working full time hours and maybe 3 days at best. Then they suddenly shot me up to full time. I was completely miserable there. I hated my life and I hated my job most of all. It was like I was chained to the register.
Working at Borders, I'm where I like being... around books. Lots of books. When I started, it was IMMEDIATE full time hours and 5 days a week. I have pretty shitty hours (I usually work 3pm - 11pm... SUPPOSEDLY... I usually don't get out until 11:30/midnight), but y'know... it's pretty satisfying work. I am NOT chained to my register. At worst, I'm bungee corded to it. I am told NOT to stay at my register and I am DEFINITELY to go out and arrange the books, pick up books that don't belong, add more books if needed, greet people, wrap gifts, sip all the FREE coffee and tea I can drink, and general clean up. The bosses are SUPER helpful and friendly. I love them lots. <3 The only downside is that if you close... you MUST help restock... which can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.
I don't like being at down register during closing (the last register open) since it's uber boring waiting for people who probably aren't gonna check out and are just loitering. But since they got a new girl, it seems she's getting my down reg time >D Mwahahaha! I'd rather restock than be on down reg at closing.
But yes, I'm much happier now. I'm not particularly wanting to be a cashier, but they've said that they're looking for ISB people after the holidays, so I may just ask to stay and do that. I like books and getting them ready for the store, putting them on the shelves, and stickering/wrapping them is more my style. And it seems like people move up pretty quickly in the ranks there. They're also a really fun group to be around. There isn't a person there I don't like.
So, yeah... life works right now. Just thought I'd let people know since I haven't been around much.
PS. My toes are super tired. Darn new shoes. ;_;
PPS. 33% off books makes me happy in my pants.

Real Life... or something like it.
Well... I hate my job. XD It's not the people. The people are very nice. I just can't stand the monotony. It's very mentally draining with it's repeative-ness. ^^; But ah well... it pays pretty well. However, I find myself sleeping a whole lot more. I understand it's a sign of slight stress and even slight depression, but it's a little disturbing to me. The work is MUCH MUCH better than the stress of final exams (which is why I decided to just get whatever degree was closest, rather than transfer and continue on). Man, those used to KILL me. Oh my back hurts just remembering it. :tears:
It's kinda.... funny, though. When I realized that I we
Oooh!
I got a 1 week free trial for a DevArt subscription. I have to admit that I do like it. But I can't see buying one until I'm drawing a little more and submitting stuff more often. Still... it's REALLY nice. I especially like the thumbnails for the recently submitted deviations. Very classy. Still... it makes me happy.
Going on a trip to Washington, DC for my birthday. Why? Dunno. It's just somewhere to go other than NY. ^^; I'm looking forward to it.
I lost my knitting needles. ;_; I hope I don't have to buy another pair. Mine were bamboo and really nice. :(
Mreh.
Had a half-way decent day. But just now... I went to clean up my desk a little. I picked up a can of pink lemonade think it was empty... It wasn't. Pink lemonade all over the place. In my keyboard, on my desk, all over the floor... and alas... my chair. Now my butt is wet and my fingers sticky. Damn evil pink lemonade.
License...
I got to ride with my brother driving for the first time. It makes me wonder how parents do it. Teach their kids how to drive without dying of pure and utter fright.
I sat in the backseat and buckled myself in. I kept thinking "This is faster than 35!!! >_

Aww, that's awesome to hear, Nabs! Congratulations on getting an awesome job that totally doesn't suck ass!
Being a register monkey is less than exhilirating. That was my least favorite thing when I worked at Toys R Us, and I can't imagine that Best Buy would have been much different.
I'm so glad to hear that you're doing well. I was starting to worry aboutcha, don'tcha know!
